dialogue is as a transatlantic visual conversation. David Campany (London) and Anastasia Samoylova (based in Miami) make photographs in response to each other’s photographs. No rules, no expectations. What has emerged is a long, winding, unbroken sentence of observational pictures. It moves between theme and form, exploring reflexively the visual grammar, syntax, resonances, and conventions of contemporary imagery, all with a heightened sense of place.
The project began in July 2017, on Instagram. Already there are over 3000 images taken in the artists’ home cities as well as Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland and across the USA.
For this first showing of the project, at Galerie Andreas Schmidt, Berlin, Dialogue is presented as a large split-screen video projection, accompanied by photographic prints. Lasting nearly five hours, the immersive image sequence can be entered at any point.
dialogue ist eine transatlantische visuelle Konversation. Anastasia Samoylova (mit Sitz in Miami) und David Campany (London) machen Fotos als Antwort auf ihre Fotos. Keine Regeln, keine Erwartungen. Es entstand ein langer, gewundener, ununterbrochener Satz von Beobachtungsbildern, die sich zwischen Thema und Form bewegen und reflexiv die visuelle Grammatik, Syntax, Resonanzen und Konventionen der zeitgenössischen Bildsprache mit einem erhöhten Ortsgefühl erforschen.
Das Projekt begann im Juli 2017 auf Instagram. Bereits über 3000 Bilder wurden in den Heimatstädten der Künstler sowie in Italien, Spanien, Frankreich, Deutschland, Belgien, Holland und in den USA aufgenommen.
Für die erste Präsentation des Projekts in der Galerie Andreas Schmidt, Berlin, wird Dialogue als eine große Split-Screen-Videoprojektion präsentiert, begleitet von fotografischen Abzügen. Die Betrachtung der nahezu fünf Stunden dauernden immersiven Bildsequenz kann an beliebiger Stelle begonnen werden.
